1st Team Match Report:

The 1st exhibition match of the day was Kendal Ladies 1s v England Masters. The game was fast paced and end-to-end throughout with some excellent scoring opportunities for both sides. The experienced England Masters side took the lead at half time with the score line at 2-0. The Kendal side were suffering from the loss of their captain Nic Martindale who picked up an injury during the first 15 minutes of the game. However, her half time team talk gave Kendal a boost and they managed to pull back a goal at the start of the 2nd half thanks to a power shot from Nicola Conway. The battle continued with some superb hockey being played. The defence fought hard however England Masters managed to steel another goal. Kendal were denied several more scoring opportunities but Vicky Jones was awarded a penalty flick which she slotted cooly over the top of the keeper resulting in a final score of 3-2 to England Masters.

The Kendal side are looking stronger than ever before and should be feeling confident going into the first game of their season in the Investec National Conference North at home to Whitley Bay on Saturday 14th September at Kirkbie Kendal School Astro, 12.30pm.

2nd Team Match Report:

The 2nd exhibition match of the day was a Cumbria select (players from Kendal & Windermere) V North 45s/50s. Both teams settled into the game nicely but it was the visitors who took the lead in the 1st half. In the 2nd half it was end to end, with Holly saving a penalty flick & an aerial shot on goal to keep the home side in the game. Sterling performances from Vicky, Suzie & Jayne enabled Kirsty to score an equalizing goal. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough & the North scored in the final minutes to win the game 1-2. Great play from Kendal youngsters Katie, Libby, Molly & Lauren was a positive indicator that the Kendal 2nd team will start the season strongly (1st league game Away to Ulverston 28th Sept).
