KENDAL are still without a home victory this season after a Claire Pearson double completed Stourport’s comeback and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Quick-fire strikes from Sally Scott and Nicola Conway fired the home side into the driving seat just after half-time before a Nicola Moss goal preceded Pearson’s late heroics.

Buoyed by their fightback against Ben Rhydding the week before, Kendal started brightly with Beth Cordukes seeing a chance within the opening two minutes drift narrowly wide.

Aside from this and half-chances for Scott and Conway, the opening period was a tight affair with both sides lacking conviction in attacking areas.

Stourport suffered an opening day rout at the hands of Brooklands Poynton but have since steadied the ship with a point at home to Loughborough followed by a 5-0 rout of Doncaster.

Fresh from their maiden win of the campaign, the visitors enjoyed phases of possession but lacked a cutting edge as the first-half ended in stalemate.

With Kendal sensing an opportunity to build on their positive start to the season, the hosts stunned their visitors after the break to seize the initiative.

Within moments of the re-start, Scott exchanged passes with Conway before finishing past Sophie Woods in the Stourport goal for her first of the season.

Kendal were very much on the front foot and extended their lead two minutes later as Conway found the net for the second game running.

The league newcomers were looking comfortable and assured in possession until the final quarter of an hour when the Worcestershire side turned the game on its head.

Moss pulled a goal back with 12 minutes remaining, setting the scene for the away side’s late charge which propels Stourport above Kendal in the league standings.

After conceding a number of short corners, Stourport restored parity in the 62nd minute as Pearson’s deflected effort found a way past Fiona Battersby in the Kendal goal.

And with the visitors turning the screw, a further short corner two minutes later was only half-cleared allowing Pearson to seal three points for the visitors with a shot through a crowded area.
