Kendal Ladies 2 v Bowdon Ladies 1
To prepare the team for national league competition, Kendal travelled to Bowdon HC in Manchester. Testing out a new attacking formation Kendal dominated the first 15 minutes, leaving Bowdon unable to clear their half. The result of this early pressure was an opening goal for Kendal. Vicky Jones received the ball at the top of the circle before sending it through to Nicola Conway who cooly slotted it home. 10 minutes on the young Bowdon side did manage to escape their half to score a breakaway equaliser.
With a score of 1-1 at half time and a quick review of the formation, Kendal entered the second half in a positive frame of mind. The team worked hard to cut off the Bowdon options with Vicky Atkinson working well to anticipate the opposition play and stop their attacks. Melanie Whalley spent the second half dutifully throwing herself around at full back to deny the Bowdon forwards much of the ball. The second Kendal goal came from a series of well worked passes across the pitch leaving Vicky Jones at the top of the circle with time to hit the ball past the Bowdon keeper.
The game was a fantastic opportunity to introduce two very promising new players to the squad. Rosie Dale and Beth Cordukes were brilliant and have both proved themselves to be an exciting addition to the Kendal club.
