Kendal Ladies were a bit asleep at the start of their first league game against Bowdon Hockey Club on Saturday and found themselves a goal behind inside five minutes. However they rallied and created a number of good chances in the first half.  The closest was a near miss at the far post following a penetrating run by Gayle Laverty.  Finally after a passing move from right to left Vicky Jones rounded the keeper to level the score in style.

In the second half both teams were positive and looking to score with opportunities at either end.  Bowdon saw a player sin-binned for a stick tackle.  Unfortunately Kendal didn’t manage to capitalise and after a tense finish with some excellent defending from Laura Morris and Emma Woodburn, the final score was 1-1.

Kendal have their Cumbrian derby match against Wigton on Saturday and will take lots of strengths from this performance including their strong tackling and close control.  Let’s hope they can put away a few more goals to secure all 3 points.
