The magic spell was broken for Kendal Ladies 1st team this week as they travelled through a snow-storm across the Pennines to play Durham University. Despite a very bright first fifteen minutes, Kendal could not break the deadlock and capitalise on their dominance. The Durham keeper kept them out with two fantastic saves. Then against the flow of play Durham broke and won a short corner which they duly converted. Kendal rallied and continued in their attacking style with some good breaks by Nicola Conway and Abby Bland on the right. But at half time the score remained 0-1.
In the second half Kendal suffered a bit having no substitutes, the squad depleted as it was half term! However there was tireless defensive work from Nicola Martindale and Mel Whalley both of whom were excellent. Kendal came close a number of times, hitting the post and repeatedly threatening the Durham goal. Sadly again Durham scored from a lifted ball in the circle and this left Kendal with too much to do. Although they battled all the way to the whistle the match finished 2-0 to Durham. Despite this disappointing result, Kendal are still in contention in this extremely tight league, only one point separates the top 6 teams.
