On Sunday the team faced a long trek to Whitley Bay who had taken the opportunity to give a number of their national league players a run out. It was a tough start and Kendal found themselves 3-0 down at half time. The girls showed their usual fighting spirit though, exemplified by Sally Scott who hassled the defence and ran tirelessly until she eventually created a chance and was flattened by the onrushing keeper. Vicky Jones then converted the resulting penalty flick. At this point Kendal started to believe and scored again from a Laura Morris deflected short corner. The game was anyone’s now and on the hour Vicky Jones made clever use of the low sun scooping a flick into the net past the blinded goalkeeper. Nicola Martindale and Vicky Atkinson continued to move the ball well for Kendal in midfield and it seemed a draw would be the result. Then to Kendal’s dismay posession was turned over just outside the 25 yard line and in 2 passes Whitley had scored a heart-breaking goal to deny Kendal a point. This was extremely disappointing and moves Kendal to 3rd in the league. A position from which they can still be promoted but they can’t afford to drop any more points.
