On Saturday the ladies 2s welcomed Wigton 2s to QKS in the cup. The drastic change in weather from the previous game at Lakes school saw a number of supporters down for what turned out to be an enjoyable game of hockey.
For the first 20 mins the play was pretty even with both teams having a number of chances but the defences proving to be working well together. Wigton took the lead through a short corner and found another just before half time to go in 2-0 up.
Kendal started the 2nd half in the same positive attitude they had played with for most of the season and started to put pressure on the Wigton defence this however left Kendal open and Wigton managed to score a 3rd. Despite this Kendal still kept attacking and what is becoming a regular feature, player of the match, Laurel Martin picked up the ball on the half way line to run at the Wigton defence leaving just herself and the goalkeeper to then dance round her and pull Kendal a goal back. Unfortunately Kendal were unable to find any more goals, not for the want of trying! Wigton’s scored a further 2 times for the game to finish 5-1.
Might not look like a good result but the team played some fantastic hockey, everyone individually had a good game and all came together to work as a unit. For a very young team (with some experienced players!) the future is very bright and it can only improve.
Thank you to Vic and Del for umpiring and Mel for running the subs, it is greatly appreciated. Finally a thank you to all the supporters that came down to watch.
