Unlucky 2s against top of the league
The ladies 2s welcomes top of the league Carlisle 2s to QKS on Saturday. The third meeting of the year and with both teams having won a game a piece, the game was always going to be a tight affair.
The game started at a good tempo with both teams sharing possession. Kendal were moving the ball around well and had a number of chances in the Carlisle D and eventually took the lead through a Flora Belshaw goal. Carlisle came back from this set back and started putting more pressure on the Kendal goal. Ruth Sealey playing in goal pulled out a number of saves before Carlisle were given a short corner. Laurel Martin did well to stop the Carlisle captain taking a shot but unfortunately took it on the shin and a second corner was given, the Carlisle captain was able to score.
Half time 1-1
The second half started in high energy thanks to the teamtalk from Jon Ellery, despite the torrential downpour. Carlisle continued to put pressure on the Kendal defence but they stood strong with Heather Randell, Ellie May and Sophie Strong working together with Sealey. Kendal had further attacks and took the lead again through another Belshaw goal. With 15 minutes left to play Carlisle continued to put pressure on the defence and broke through to get another goal. The game continued to move back and forth and looked like being a well deserved draw for the 2s. However, a Carlisle shot taken from outside the D and left by the Kendal defence was adjudged by the umpire to be taken inside and the goal was given. With time running out Kendal were unable to find another goal. Final score 3-2.
Thank you again to all the friends and families that keep coming to watch despite the horrendous weather conditions.
The 2s return after Christmas on the 12th January with another home game against Dalston.
