On a very wet Lakes School pitch Kendal 2s, with a number of changes to the side, took on the newly formed Wigton 2s. With regular goalkeeper Sophie Willan making her debut for our Ladies first team, Ruby Robinson stepped up to take charge of the goal for us for the first time. With the weather conditions getting worse and a number of parents braving the rain to support, the match started with many Kendal attacks from Bec Barnes, Laurel Martin, Flora Belshaw and Holly Jepson. As the game settled down, Wigton made a break through the Kendal defence and scored the opening goal. A further attack took them 2-0 up before Laurel Martin took the ball on the half way line, like the previous week, and ran at the Wigton defence. Once in the D she played the perfect shot to get Kendal on the board. With a torrential downpour Wigton made further advances on the Kendal goal and finished the first half 6-1.
A positive team talk from the coaching and parents on the side line saw Kendal start the second half with a renewed vigour. Zoe Dempsey in the middle of the pitch had many chances running into the D and it paid off when she found the back of the Wigton goal. Kendal kept up the pressure with support from Sarah Harper, Abbie Thomas, Heather Randell and Sophie Strong in the middle of the pitch, this allowed Holly Jepson to find another goal for Kendal and the score to become 6-3. More chances arrived, but Kendal were unable to find the back of the visitors net. Although the Greens defence of Edie Hollis, Ellie May and Sophie Stead saw off a number of attacks, unfortunately for Kendal the away side managed to score a further 2 goals for the final score of 8-3.
Another game where despite the score the Kendal 2s can take away a lot of positives and improvements were apparent throughout the side. Ruby Robinson got the player of the match for a great effort in goal despite the atrocious weather conditions.
Next week the 2s travel to top of the league Kirkby Lonsdale for the first derby game of the season.
