On Sunday, a few of the ladies first team donned their green kit again and were joined by a select crew of experienced players to face Dalston in the Over-35 Cup.
Although Dalston looked organised from the start and had much possession, Kendal were able to take control of the game and it was skipper Vicky Whalley-Jones who found herself on the scoresheet just before half-time, walking the ball straight into the D and striking it on her reverse to send it rocketing past the keeper. Superb work rate from Whalley-Jones and Jo Elleray in midfield, in front of the strong defensive line of Heather Randell, Laura Morris and Michelle Clough with Ruth Sealey in goal meant Dalston were unable to properly retaliate. Some excellent forward play from Karen Tyson and Emma Reid meant forwards Claire Hewick and Jill Dale got plenty of ball and Amie Davidson and Andrea Elvey threw everything at it to create some excellent chances.
Earning themselves a penalty corner in the second half, Kendal were able to extend their lead with less than ten minutes from the final whistle, thanks to debutant Davidson’s persistence in the D, slotting a second past the keeper at the right post. Thinking they had done the hard work, the home team stepped off the pace a little and allowed Dalston into the D, Sealey found herself with a two on one and despite her best efforts Dalston had one on the board. With only four minutes remaining, Dalston fired up their intensity, but found themselves running out of time, with the score being 2-1 to Kendal at the final whistle.
Kendal are through to the next round, which will be played on Sunday 16th December.
