Kendal’s mature ensemble journeyed to Lancaster on a crisp, clear Sunday morning to blow some cobwebs from some old sticks and shinpads recently retrieved from their retirement homes.
Despite never having played together the intrepid Kendal team bonded quickly, found the old touch coming back and battled bravely. Although Lancaster took the lead first, Kendal did not falter or flinch. Some Hollywood passing and link play lead to an equaliser to take the game into half time.
Kendal took the lead in the second half, Jones converting a lovely reverse strike despite having been felled like a mighty oak and the team added a third soon after. Unfortunately Lancaster managed to pull level, and at the whistle 3-3 meant flicks.
Despite everyone giving everything they had, today was not to be Kendal’s day and Lancaster came out on top 2-1 in the shootout. Hopefully there will be another outing for this marvellous bunch of ladies as they very much deserved more.
