Kendal welcomed Bolton to The Queen Katherine School last weekend to battle it out for top spot in the league.
Bolton were the brighter team when the game began. The visitors looked to have the ability to hold up the ball in the middle and to have pace up front. After a slow start, Kendal grew into the game, and as the half progressed the match was evenly contested. Unfortunately for The Greens, Bolton scored first when they converted from a penalty corner. Man of the match John Stanworth levelled the score just before half time. Stanworth latched onto a cross from the left and hit a reverse sweep into the bottom right of the goal.
Half time- Kendal 1 – 1 Bolton.
The second half continued to be hard fought and both teams created opportunities to score. As the clock ticked on it was the home side that seemed to be gaining the lions share of the possession. The Greens earned themselves a series of penalty corners, but try as they might, they could not convert. It was from one of these corners that Bolton struck. A missed chance at one end of the pitch turned into the winning goal at the other as the visitors broke quickly and scored the decider, despite Gordon Blunt’s and Rob Cartwright’s valiant efforts to intercede.
Final score- Kendal Men’s 1s 1 – 2 Bolton Men’s 1s.
Kendal will look to show their bouncebackability when they travel to Bury this coming weekend.
