Kendal kicked off their 2018/19 season by welcoming Ormskirk 1s to their temporary home pitch.
Kendal started quickly and it wasn’t long before they earned a penalty corner. The ball was injected and slipped to Chris Woodman who floated into the D like a stingray. Woodman dispatched a killer ball for Noah Ross to deftly deflect into the net for his first goal for the 1s. A second goal soon followed for Kendal as Tom Taggart, playing his debut league game for The Greens, showed his class by converting from a tight angle. Kendal created several more chances, but the Ormskirk keeper was in fine fettle and denied the home strike force any further goals. Ormskirk mounted a charge and scored against the run of play just before half time.
Half time- Kendal 2 – 1 Ormskirk.
The visitors started the second half with renewed vigor and crafted themselves some chances. They scored a second from a well executed penalty corner that left Kendal keeper Rob Cartwright no chance to make the save.
Kendal stayed calm and before long they began to establish dominance once more. An especially fine tackle by another Kendal debutante Matt Marston was the foundation for The Green’s third goal. Marston released the ball into midfield and the home side passed the ball around with consummate ease before Andrew Melville, who was also having a standout performance, drove toward the Ormskirk D. The ball was pinged around before captain Aaron Screen found himself with a tap-in to finish off a great team move. To put the cherry on the cake for the hosts, Tom Taggart bagged his brace soon after. Taggart drove down the right flank, turned into the D and unleashed a reverse stick beauty to cap off his man of the match performance.
The new look Kendal ended their first game of the season encouraged to see their changed formation having the desired affects.
Final score- Kendal Men’s 1s 4 – 2 Ormskirk Men’s 1s.
