Despite having been denied a win the past few games, Kendal welcomed second in the league Ormskirk to The Queen Katherine School last Saturday with quiet confidence.

The game started at a high tempo and it was the visitors who looked to press from the off. The early pressure was dealt with with ease by the Kendal back line of Jared Elshaw, Liam Platt, Phil Conlin and Ollie Hayton who were ready for action. Andrew Melville, Tyson Barclay and Harry Denney began to gain the upper hand in the midfield and it wasn’t long before the home side were applying some pressure of their own. Man of the match Alex Tarney seemed to be virtually impossible to tackle as he jinked and spun down the right wing and it was from one such run that the opening goal came. The ball was switched back into the centre of the pitch to Rob Bradshaw who glanced up to see Steve Barclay finding space in the Ormskirk D. Bradshaw took one touch and then unleashed a laser-guided missile of a pass to Barclay’s stick. Despite the pace of the ball, Barclay made his first time deft touch that completely wrong footed the keeper look easy.

Half time- Kendal 1 – 0 Ormskirk.

The second half got underway with the home side’s positivity high. The match ebbed and flowed with both teams having a share of the possession, but with The Greens just edging control of the game. The host’s midfield were working hard with Lucas Rumney making a valuable contribution on his debut for Kendal. Although each team were doing their best to create more chances, finding the net was proving difficult for both. Kendal were playing well and made several scoring opportunities, but were guilting of failing to convert and James Taylor in the Kendal goal easily dealt with the few shots on target the visitors fashioned. As time wore on Kendal could feel that an important victory was within their grasp and fought bravely to a man to hold on to the lead. The final whistle blew to find a jubilant Kendal side had finally got the result their recent performances have warranted.

Full time- Kendal Men’s 2s 1 – 0 Ormskirk Men’s 2s.

Kendal Men’s 2s are looking forward to their last game before the Christmas break this Saturday, away to local rivals Windermere.
