Diversity Policy

Kendal Hockey Club is fully committed to the elimination of unlawful and unfair discrimination and values the differences that a diverse membership brings to the club.

As an organisation we will not discriminate because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

We will always build a culture that values meritocracy, openness, fairness and transparency.

All members of the club are responsible for the promotion and advancement of this policy. Behaviour, actions or words that transgress the policy will not be tolerated and will be dealt with in line with the Club disciplinary procedure.

This Policy is applicable to all players, coaches, spectators, helpers and umpires. It will be reviewed on an ongoing basis to reflect changes in the law, demographics and internal club requirements. Progress relating to the policy will be monitored on an ongoing basis.

The publication of a diversity policy enables our club to send out a strong message of commitment, both internally and externally. Although the diversity policy is a fundamental part of the club’s strategy, it can only be brought to life if it is reinforced by everyone involved.

The club will:

  • set diversity objectives on annual basis;
  • identify a Diversity Champion on the Committee;

Policy development

The club will:

  • Cascade new policies and changes to club members through appropriate briefings and communications.

The club will:

  • establish key lines of communication across key stakeholders.
  • communicate and celebrate the organisation’s successes.

External profile

The club will:

  • where appropriate join other organisations in order to network, exchange best practice and generally raise the clubs profile;
  • build relationships to develop a positive external image regarding diversity in the club and how this supports the local community.
